Youth Leader (part-time)

Markham Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Markham, Ontario, just outside of Toronto, Canada. We are a multigenerational church consisting of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds who are enthusiastic about serving God.

The Youth Leader will be responsible for fostering and encouraging spiritual development of youth both within the congregation and in the Markham community.

This individual must have a firm grasp on the Word of God and an evident ministry call on life; personal initiative, energy, and passion for youth ministry is a must.

He/she must be able to plan and lead youth ministries while building teams to help support and run programs.

The Youth Leader should be willing to reach out to youth within the community and aim to build relationships. In proclaiming the reality of Jesus Christ through the word and deed to our community, this should be achieved by initiating, coordinating, developing and overseeing outreach opportunities for young people.

Providing opportunities for youth to experience worship that glorifies God and fosters a worshipful attitude in youth, is also a must. In addition, this individual should be passionate about prayer in their own walk with God and be an example by encouraging youth to build a solid foundation in prayer.

This part-time contract position consisting of 20 hours/week as a Youth Leader is a role particularly suited to someone who is interested in a part-time church position along with spending half-time in another work or study setting, excluding a position in another church.

  • A vibrant, Christ-centered spiritual life
  • Strong leadership qualities, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to relate to youth of varying ages
  • Demonstrated experience in Youth ministry; some experience in Outreach ministry is an asset
  • Excellent relational skills; ability to communicate one-on-one and in large groups with people of all ages
  • A vision for outreach in an ethnically diverse community
  • Post-secondary education in Christian ministry or in the process of completing, is an asset
